Vineyards normally occupy the slopes best exposed (quadrant from southeast to west) excluding the valley floor.
The production area is at the center of the so-called tertiary basin of Piedmont, the hill system originated from the seafloor uplift in tertiary epoch; the soils are mainly limestone, medium depth and resting on rocky matrix limestone-sandstone marl.
The product specification sets very strict constraints on cultivation and oenological plan to maintain high quality standards.
